A day in my life
I wake up and get ready to come to uni. I usually arrive about 1-2 hours before class to study and hang out with my friends. I attend my lectures, then hang out with my friends some more, film content, or attend any meetings for the societies I’m a part of.
Later in the day, I usually go to the gym before volleyball or football training. After training, I go home, shower, and have a chill hangout with my friends at the dorms.
Why Birmingham Dubai?
I chose the University of Birmingham Dubai because I grew up in the UAE and wanted to continue my academic journey at a top institution without being too far from my family. When I learned about the scholarships and opportunities Birmingham Dubai offers, it was a no brainer.
I attended an Open Day with my family during the winter before my high school graduation. I was impressed by the campus and had an insightful conversation with a professor from the course I was applying to.
I was born and raised in Abu Dhabi, so naturally Dubai seemed like an attractive option that would still be new and different but not too far from home. I love that Dubai has a variety of options and a wide array of hangout spots and restaurants to discover.
Why I chose to study Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at Birmingham Dubai
I chose to study Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science because I saw the greatest potential in an ever-growing industry with countless possibilities, especially in the UAE, which is becoming a hub for the emerging AI culture.
My Birmingham Dubai experience
My student experience at the University of Birmingham Dubai has been incredibly fun, engaging, and rewarding. I’ve had the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of activities and communities. From serving on the Activities Council and Events Committee to representing the University in both the football team and as captain of the volleyball team.
I’ve also contributed to organising major events like the Global Showcase, and have been an active member of the Formula Student team as an engineer and Content Creator. I’ve taken part in various University content creation projects to promote student life and events.
Advice for students
I would encourage prospective students to visit Open Days and talk to current students.
Engage in student life as it helps you meet a wide array of people and join many communities, and meet loads of amazing new people.
I wish I knew that you are expected to be more academically independent in comparison to school, but I guess that’s just a natural learning curve.
