My Birmingham Dubai experience
My learning experience at the University of Birmingham Dubai has significantly contributed to my professional development. The course provided me with a more structured understanding of finance, management, and the global business environment. The combination of theoretical knowledge and practical case studies helped me refine my strategic thinking and decision-making skills, which I now apply regularly in my role as Finance Manager at HTX, a global cryptocurrency exchange.
Moreover, the exposure to diverse perspectives and the opportunity to engage with peers from different backgrounds enhanced my ability to navigate cross-cultural business challenges, an essential skill in my international role.
The best things about my course were its practical approach and the global perspective it offered. The course provided a solid foundation in finance and management, while also encouraging us to think critically about real-world issues. The case study method was particularly valuable, as it helped me apply theoretical concepts to actual business challenges, which I now encounter in my professional role.
Additionally, the diverse cohort brought a variety of perspectives, which enhanced the learning experience and gave me a deeper understanding of different business environments.
My achievements
My biggest achievement during my course was successfully balancing my part-time studies with my full-time role. This experience not only tested my time management skills but also allowed me to apply the knowledge I gained in real-time to my work.
I was able to leverage the academic concepts from my coursework, such as strategic financial management and global business practices, to enhance my decision-making and contribute more effectively to my company.
Birmingham Dubai’s impact
The University of Birmingham’s support services, particularly the Careers Network, played a pivotal role in preparing me for my career. The Careers Network provided valuable resources for professional development, such as workshops on CV building, interview techniques, and personal branding. I also had access to one-on-one career counselling, which helped me refine my long-term career goals and develop a clearer vision for my professional growth.
The University's network of alumni and industry connections also offered opportunities for further networking, giving me insights into different career paths and industry trends that proved helpful in my role today.
My journey from Birmingham Dubai
I currently work as a Finance Manager at HTX, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges globally.
A typical day in my role involves a mix of strategic planning, financial analysis, and operational oversight. I start the day by reviewing financial reports from the MENA region to ensure accuracy and identify any discrepancies. I also monitor the financial performance of our BVI entities, making sure all transactions and records are aligned with regulatory standards.
Throughout the day, I attend meetings with cross-functional teams, including compliance, legal, and operations, to discuss financial strategies and address any emerging issues that may arise. I also work closely with senior leadership to prepare forecasts and budgeting plans.
Advice for students

Secondly, keep learning and upskilling because the world of work is constantly evolving, especially in fields like finance and technology. Continuously improve your skills and stay updated with industry trends to remain competitive.
