A day in my life

My typical day as a masters student in Global Health System Leadership looks different depending on my schedule.

I usually attend lectures and seminars that focus on health policy, leadership, and health system management. Some days include group discussions, presentations, and case study analysis related to global health challenges.

I also spend time in the library or online working on assignments, research, and reading academic articles. In between classes, I network with classmates and faculty, which enriches my learning experience.

My day is structured around balancing academic work, professional development, and collaboration.

Why Birmingham Dubai?

I chose to live and study in the United Arab Emirates because it is my home country and a nation I am deeply proud to belong to. The UAE is advancing rapidly in healthcare innovation, medical technology, and health systems. Our leadership places strong emphasis on quality of care, sustainability, and global competitiveness in the health sector.

I chose the University of Birmingham Dubai because it offers a world-class British education within the UAE. Studying at a globally ranked university here supports the UAE’s vision of becoming a regional hub for higher education and research. It allows Emirati students like myself to gain an international education while staying connected to national priorities. It also prepares me to contribute to healthcare development in the UAE after I graduate.

Attending the Open Day gave me the opportunity to learn more about the programme, faculty, and campus environment. This confirmed that Birmingham Dubai was the right choice for my goals and what I wanted from postgraduate study.

Why I chose to study Global Health System Leadership at Birmingham Dubai

I chose to study MSc Global Health System Leadership because it combines health policy, strategy, and leadership in one specialised degree. What stood out at Birmingham Dubai was the strong academic structure and the focus on real-world case studies and thinking about healthcare on a broader, system-wide level.

The course aligns closely with my long-term goal of contributing to healthcare transformation in the UAE. As an Emirati, I want to support the continuous advancement of our national healthcare system, and this programme helps me develop the leadership and strategic skills needed to do so effectively.

My Birmingham Dubai experience

My student experience has been very enriching and inspiring. I have built strong friendships with classmates from diverse professional and cultural backgrounds.

The learning environment is collaborative, and we often exchange experiences from the healthcare sector. I particularly enjoy interactive lectures, group projects, and leadership discussions.

The campus facilities, study spaces, and events also create a balanced academic and social life.

Birmingham Dubai’s impact

The University has provided significant academic and professional support throughout my studies. Faculty members are highly supportive and accessible, offering guidance on assignments and research. The University also provides academic resources, library access, and career support services.

Guest lectures and networking opportunities have helped me connect theory with real-world healthcare practice, strengthening my professional development.

This support system has helped me stay focused and perform effectively in my programme.

Advice for students

My advice to prospective students is to fully engage in their academic journey:

  • Participate in lectures
  • Ask questions
  • Take advantage of networking opportunities

Time management is very important, especially when balancing studies with professional responsibilities.

I also encourage students to attend University events and connect with peers from different backgrounds.

Most importantly, choose a field you are passionate about. It makes the learning experience more meaningful and impactful.
