Hi, I’m Lakshya, and I am a first year Digital Media and Communications student studying at the Dubai campus.

In my spare time, I enjoy exploring music across different genres and listening to podcasts.

A typical week in my life

A week at the University of Birmingham Dubai drifts by in little moments I love. Lectures and seminars fill the mornings, and then I find myself at the Spanish Steps with friends, laughing, sharing stories, and sipping coffee at the Costa on the first floor.

There’s always something happening, events or activities popping up, and I spend time designing posters and planning as part of the marketing team for the Student Entrepreneurship Association (SEA) and the Philosophy Club.

Living just minutes away makes studying, societies, and exploring vibrant Dubai on weekends feel easy, joyful, and like a little world of its own.

Why I chose Birmingham Dubai

University of Birmingham Dubai stood out to me for its dynamic curriculum and a campus that feels alive, where every space invites connection and conversation, paired with Dubai’s constant vibrancy, ensuring there is never a dull day on or beyond campus.

Why I chose Digital Media and Communications

I chose Digital Media and Communications because it feels real and relevant. From hands-on campus roles in marketing, social media, etc., to interactive seminars where we apply what we learn practically, the course lets me go beyond the surface and understand how media truly works today.

What really excites me are the modules where we break down real campaigns and ideas, and the skills we gain, like understanding audience response and crafting impactful messages, make contributing to societies and clubs feel creative, meaningful, and connected to what we’re actually learning.

My future plans

This degree will prepare me for a future in marketing, media, and communications, giving me practical skills and self-assurance.

I’m excited to explore internships and opportunities through the university’s Careers Network, gaining experience that could lead me to work with magazines, visual storytelling, and the world of digital and printed media.

My advice to new students

University life starts slowly, and it can feel strange and perhaps like everyone already has friends. Just say hi, ask about their favourite music, share your thoughts, and take the first step. Join societies, pitch to clubs, attend events, and keep yourself busy. You’ll soon realise everyone is welcoming, and life at Birmingham Dubai becomes full, fun, and truly yours.
