Hi, I'm Mariel and I'm a first year Digital Media and Communications student studying at the Dubai campus.
Mariel Rodrigues

In my spare time I engage in reading and baking for my family and friends.

A typical week in my life

I commute to the university via the university bus and attend my daily classes. After my class I like to spend time with my friends near the food atrium and grab something to eat. The food atrium has plenty of options and I always look forward to eating there.

After spending time with my friends, I like to engage in some independent studying for an hour - going through the day's content and reviewing my notes. The atmosphere in the library really helps me focus and I never have any difficulties in finding resources to study.

Once a week I join the tennis club to play and learn a new sport, as I am a beginner. The atmosphere is amazing and everyone in the club is very supportive and fun. The clubs are a great place to meet new people and create friendships especially during your first year.

Why I chose Birmingham Dubai

The Dubai campus is very impressive and has many social spaces for me to spend time with my friends and meet new people. The services it provides, like the library and student hub, are incredibly helpful in navigating University life. Dubai is a lively city and there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy yourself alongside building a strong profile.

Why I chose Digital Media and Communications

I wanted to study DMC as it interested me since I was in high-school. I look forward to the opportunities it will present me, as it involves working with other people and understanding communication in media which always has caught my interest.

I was very happy when I found out about the various opportunities the university provides in employing students within the campus.

My future plans

My degree will aid me in my future endeavours as I am confident it will provide me with the skills to excel in my career and be a driven individual.

I know not only my academics will assist me but the soft skills I would have developed through my three year journey will help me build a successful career and be a great individual.

My advice to prospective students

I would advise prospective students to think about the work they would like to see themselves do, and what would personally make them feel fulfilled as individuals in the long run and make their decisions accordingly.

If DMC interests you and makes you curious enough to pursue it, I would highly recommend it. The subject is really engaging and new which makes it very interesting and opens doors to various novel opportunities.
