Hello! I’m Rohit, an MEng Computer Science and Software Engineering graduate who experienced the best of both worlds across the Dubai and Edgbaston campuses.

Why I chose to study Computer Science and Software Engineering at Birmingham Dubai

I was drawn to UoB Dubai because I could study a world-class UK degree closer to home and later transfer to the UK.

I was impressed with the way the MEng programme was structured and the reputation of the University. The course provides a solid grounding but also allows for the potential to specialise, particularly in the later stages of your degree.

My Birmingham Dubai experience

The course provided a unique opportunity to transfer to the UK, allowing me to get a quality education and an international experience that suited my flexibility. I found that both campuses had similar academic practices, and there was supportive staff in place.

It was also exciting to experience a new culture and wider learning environment at the Birmingham (UK) campus.

Each campus had its own strengths in different ways. Dubai had a more blended community and greater access to faculty, while the UK campus had more research opportunities and ties to industry.

What I got was the best of both worlds, starting off in a more familiar place and finishing in a vibrant global hub with added specialisation and networking opportunities.

Ultimately, working on my final year research project in the UK was one of the best experiences. I was able to apply everything I had learnt and really engage with a real-world problem to a depth with excellent support.

Advice for students

The advice I would like to give is to be sure to take advantage of what's available to you, whether it's academic support, career services, or an opportunity for extracurriculars.

The Computer Science and Software Engineering MEng (Dubai) course is fairly broad, so stay inquisitive and discover anything that interests you.
