Why Birmingham Dubai?
I primarily chose the University of Birmingham Dubai for its high rankings, and because I was already working in Dubai when I started my degree. Life in Dubai is busy; everyone is trying to reach their best selves. This is quite inspiring and motivating. It also serves as a push for one to grow.
I also wanted a course that had practical implementation, to allow me to apply what I learned to my professional life.
My Birmingham Dubai experience
I loved being at the atrium, connecting with friends. Those were some of my fondest memories.
My journey from Birmingham Dubai
I am a Software Team Lead in a company in Dubai. My daily life looks like coordinating and managing a few software teams in different regions, and some part of the day goes in programming and structuring different software platforms.
There are a few things I learned from my degree that have helped me in my current job. Firstly, an awareness of studies in AI and its application, and being able to see those get implemented practically.
Since graduating, I have been doing as many projects as I can on AI to polish my skills.
Advice for students
If you’re looking to enter the software industry, it’s important that hands-on coding is done to polish your skills before you enter the sector. Coding skills are tested more than anything.
Take a lot of time to relate your current studies to how and where they are being implemented. This creates interest and an eagerness to get a deep understanding of what you are most interested in.
