A day in my life

My mornings usually begin with a cup of coffee while planning the day ahead. As someone balancing a full-time role in operations alongside my masters degree, my schedule can get busy, but that's what makes every achievement even more rewarding. During the workday, I often apply concepts discussed in class to real business situations, making lectures feel immediately relevant.

As evening approaches, it's time to swap my work laptop for my university notebook. Walking through campus after work has become one of my favourite parts of the day. There's always a familiar face to wave at, classmates catching up before lectures, and conversations that somehow begin with assignments and end with laughter.

By the time I get home, I am already looking forward to the next day.

Why Birmingham Dubai?

When I was exploring universities, I was looking for a community where I could grow academically, professionally, and personally. The University of Birmingham Dubai stood out because it offered exactly that.

One of the defining moments in my decision-making process was attending an Open Day in Bangalore. It gave me the opportunity to understand the learning environment beyond what a website could offer. I met my Programme Director, and that conversation left a lasting impression on me. He patiently answered all my questions and explained the course structure in detail. His passion for the programme and genuine interest in supporting students gave me the confidence that I was making the right choice.

Another person who made a significant difference was a Birmingham Dubai alumnus who stayed in regular contact with me throughout my decision-making journey. He openly shared the experience, answered my questions honestly, and helped me navigate every stage of the process. That support made the decision feel much less overwhelming.

Being part of a Russell Group university strengthened my confidence, but what stood out throughout my journey has been Birmingham's philosophy of learning through knowledge exchange. Our Programme Director often reminds us that education is about sharing experiences and learning from one another, and I have experienced that in every classroom discussion.

Why did you choose to live and study in Dubai?

Having grown up in Dubai, it has always felt like home to me.

What I love most about the city is its diversity. You meet people from every corner of the world, experience different cultures every day, and have opportunities to learn from others. It offers a balance of innovation, opportunity, and safety.

Studying here has also allowed me to build strong professional connections while experiencing life in one of the world's fastest-moving cities.

What made Birmingham Dubai the right place to study Advanced Engineering Management?

Coming from an Artificial Intelligence and Data Science background, I wanted to continue building on my engineering foundation while also developing my interest in leadership, strategy, and business management. I saw these skills becoming increasingly important for engineers leading innovation and driving organisational success.

The MSc Advanced Engineering Management offered that balance. It bridges engineering and management, allowing me to strengthen my technical understanding while developing skills to manage projects, teams, and organisations.

Another reason I chose this programme was its practical and industry-focused approach. Every module encourages us to connect theory with real-world engineering and business challenges, enabling me to immediately apply what I learn in my role in operations. This direct connection between the classroom and workplace has been especially valuable.

My Birmingham Dubai experience

My Birmingham journey has been filled with moments I will never forget.

One of the proudest moments was being selected to anchor the University's 125th Anniversary celebrations. Standing on stage, representing the student community during such a historic milestone, was both surreal and incredibly meaningful. It reminded me how much the University believes in giving students opportunities to shine beyond academics.

Life here isn't only about lectures and assignments. One of my favourite memories is celebrating Diwali on campus. Watching students from different cultures come together to celebrate, enjoying the performances, traditional attire, delicious food, and festive atmosphere, reminded me how beautifully diverse Birmingham Dubai truly is. It never felt like just a university; it felt like a community.

Through the skills, exposure, and encouragement I received, I was honoured to be appointed as a Panel Member on the Board of Studies at REVA University.

I have also had the privilege of delivering guest talks on studying abroad, mentoring aspiring students, and sharing my journey with those hoping to pursue international education. Being able to inspire someone else's journey has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my own.

Birmingham Dubai’s impact

The University has helped me grow in ways that extend far beyond the classroom.

Academically, the programme has challenged me to think critically, analyse problems from different perspectives, and apply theoretical concepts to real-world situations. The assignments and examinations don't just assess subject knowledge; they test your ability to manage pressure, solve complex problems, work collaboratively, and think strategically.

Professionally, the impact has been immediate. The practical nature of the programme has allowed me to apply classroom discussions directly to my role as an Operations professional.

The University's Careers Network has also played a significant role in my development. I attended sessions on CV building, interview preparation, LinkedIn optimisation, and networking. These prepared me for the evolving job market and the skills employers look for.

One of the greatest sources of support I received was a scholarship, which recognised my academic achievements and eased the financial commitment of pursuing my masters degree.

Beyond financial support, the professors were always approachable and willing to provide guidance beyond the classroom. Their constructive feedback created an environment where questions were welcomed, ideas were valued, and learning extended far beyond lectures.

Advice for students

Say yes to every opportunity.

Attend networking events, participate in campus celebrations, volunteer, and don't hesitate to start conversations with your professors and classmates. Some of my biggest opportunities came from simply stepping outside my comfort zone.

Build relationships with people from different cultures and industries, and you will learn just as much from your peers as you will from your lectures.

Finally, remember that being part of Birmingham doesn't end at graduation. I was fortunate to receive guidance when I was choosing Birmingham, and today, being able to mentor and inspire is my way of continuing that cycle.
