SUMMARY:Black History Month 2025
UID:www.birmingham.ac.uk/166160
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to launch Black History Month 2025, celebrating the cultures and histories of our Black community.\n
This year's theme is 'Standing Firm in Power and Pride,' marking the contributions of Black people throughout history and looking ahead to a future of continued progress. Our staff members will explore the contirbutions of themselves and their predecessors at panel events, and through our various film screenings and lectures, whilst also looking towards the future. We are aiming to weave the theme throughout our programme.\n
The Race Equality Network have been working with the Benjamin Zephaniah Legacy Group to establish an annual lecture in his name. Our inaugural Benjamin Zephaniah Community Lecture will be held on the evening 1 October to mark the start of Black History Month, with our special guest speaker, George the Poet. This event will be for staff, students, and members of our local communities.\n
The activities for Black History Month have been put together by departments and individuals from across the University and the staff Race Equality Network.\n
This programme has been created to enhance our staff community so please do engage with as much as possible, and encourage and facilitate colleagues to do so too.\n
