DESCRIPTION:ESRC Festival of Social Science\n Since 2010, social scientists from the University of Birmingham have been working with Parliamentarians and policymakers to inform and shape thinking about how to tackle Islamophobia and anti-Muslim hatred in the UK. As part of this, they have presented evidence to the All Party Parliamentary Group on Islamophobia, sat as independent experts on the Cross-Government Working Group on Anti-Muslim Hatred, and have been part of the steering committee for the recently launched, government funded anti-Muslim hate crime third party reporting service. \n This free half day event will be an opportunity for those who live in Birmingham to gain an understanding of the policy process and its impact. It will feature presentations by social science researchers who will showcase their work on Islamophobia, anti-Muslim hatred and other relevant issues. Policymakers will then introduce the policy process and explain how social scientists feed into this. This will be followed by an open discussion where members of the public can ask questions and give their opinions on the key areas for future research and policy which will inform future thinking.\n
