DESCRIPTION:Panellists include Lord Heseltine, Lord Adonis, Petra Roth, the Mayor of Frankfurt, and Catherine Staite\n Ahead of the city’s mayoral referendum in May 2012, the University of Birmingham is holding this debate to explore city leadership. It will not look at ‘who’ should lead Birmingham, rather, what kind of leadership the city needs, what an elected Mayor could do for the city and region, and the powers that they should have. \n \n Birmingham was the first English civic university and we cherish our civic roots. We are committed to forming ideas through the crucible of debate and opening them to challenge. We are ideally positioned to host these debates on a subject of such importance to the future of Birmingham. \n \n This debate will bring together leaders and representatives from business, education, politics, and the community, to discuss the benefits that an elected Mayor could bring to Birmingham, and how this would affect the current structure of local government. \n \n This event is free of charge but you must register your interest using the booking form.
