One of the most prevailing gender-based stereotypes that appears to travel across continents is that a woman’s place is in the kitchen, and yet when it comes to the commercial kitchen women are few and far between.

Hospitality requires emotional intelligence and when we are working across cultures, intercultural sensitivity, but this is often thought to be a feminine skill. Join Dr Heather Jeffrey, a leading expert on gender and tourism in the UAE as she discusses her research into gender bias in the hospitality industry and highlights how undoing gender may be an important aspect of on-the-job training.
