“I think Jackie is an icon of black feminism in this country, and, for me, the play’s not just about Jackie’s relationship with her parents. It’s also about her development as a black woman feminist in Scotland in the 1960s and 1970s.”

– Tanika Gupta

This February, we'll be reading Jackie Kay's memoir Red Dust Road. The biography of the Scottish poet, playwright and novelist is a story about adoption, growing up mixed-race in 1960s Scotland, and connecting with her birth parents.

Watch Jackie Kay introduce the book and speak to Tanika Gupta about it's adaptation into a play.

The book is available in print and as an audiobook from the Library of Birmingham.

Online. Registration required.

Open to members of the Rainbow Network and the Women's Network, plus all University of Birmingham staff.
