Image body art

Year Group: 10-13

Subject(s): Art History

Attendee Requirements: None

About: This session looks at a variety of objects in the University's collections and considers the kind of body image(s) they put forward. Participants will be encouraged to think about how bodies and body image have been constructed within the history of art, considering things like beauty and the ideal body, racialized bodies, gendered and queer bodies, and who is looking at who in such constructions. We will think about how such concepts have changed or persist in today's society and how certain bodies/images are disseminated and given cultural value through platforms like Instagram.

Speakers: Dr Elizabeth L'Estrange, Dr Sophie Hatchwell, and Dr Greg Salter

How to book: Bookings should be made by the school coordinator using the booking form available on the Masterclasses programme page.
