SUMMARY:The Frayed Atlantic Edge with Dr. David Gange
UID:www.birmingham.ac.uk/213835
DESCRIPTION:Join University historian, Dr. David Gange, for a captivating talk about his immersive journeys along the Atlantic coasts of Britain and beyond. \n
Drawing on his books The Frayed Atlantic Edge (2019) and Afloat (to be released in 2026), David shares stories from thousands of miles travelled by kayak and traditional boats, nights spent on wild shorelines, and time learning from boatbuilders and coastal communities.\n
These books reflect on today’s ecological challenges, showing how the resilience, knowledge, and environmental ethics of these water-connected communities offer vital insights for a sustainable future.\n
In 2025 the University is celebrating 125 years. This milestone marks a legacy of driving change and shaping society. The public programme at the Exchange explores boundary pushing research of the past, present and future. Come along and discover how University research impacts you, and help us shape the future together.\n
