SUMMARY:Rethinking Masculinity
UID:www.birmingham.ac.uk/213836
DESCRIPTION:From mental health to masculinity, the challenges facing boys and young men are increasingly in the spotlight. \n
Too often, the conversation is shaped by blame - focused on what boys are doing wrong, rather than the systems shaping their lives.\n This thought-provoking event brings together academics, frontline experts, and community voices to rethink how families, schools, and society can support boys to thrive. We’ll explore how social and educational structures, harmful stereotypes, and algorithm-driven content are shaping boys’ identities, and what we can do to interrupt harmful cycles with evidence, care, and practical tools.\n
Chaired by Mark Brooks (Centre for Men and Boys), panellists include Dr Sophie King-Hill (University of Birmingham), Kasim Ali (author), Nikki Holmes (Safer Together), Shaheim Minzie (project participant), and David Russell (Parent to Parent).\n
In 2025 the University is celebrating 125 years. This milestone marks a legacy of driving change and shaping society. The public programme at the Exchange explores boundary pushing research of the past, present and future. Come along and discover how University research impacts you, and help us shape the future together.\n
