DESCRIPTION:Join Sampad South Asian Arts and Heritage and University of Birmingham at The Exchange for a celebration that embraces community, unity, love, and the radiant power of light.\n
 Experience the essence of ‘Ujala’, meaning ‘light’ in Hindi, as we delve into its rich cultural, spiritual and religious significance through music, performance, discussions, and dance.\n

 Free, drop-in\n
 Participate in family-friendly, hands-on workshops, where you can paint your own Diya (lamp), create intricate Mehndi hand designs, and craft enchanting paper lanterns. You can also enjoy a Yakshagana performance combining storytelling, music and dance. Young poets and singers will also have a chance to shine as they showcase their talents.\n

 As the sun sets, the venue will come alive with a captivating Dance Mala, featuring a variety of styles performed by both solo artists and dynamic duos including Katie Ryan, Devika Rao and Group, Anaya Bolar and Shriya Sharma . We’ll also welcome to the stage renowned composer and producer Shammi Pithia, whose music has twice claimed the top spot on the iTunes World Music chart.\n
 Throughout the day, we'll bring together artists, academics and communities to explore the significance and brilliance of light through engaging conversations, immersive activities, and enlightening talks.\n
 This event is presented as part of A Place to Call Home, an exhibition and events programme exploring homelessness, adult social care and displacement through the lens of University of Birmingham research and people who have lived through them.\n
