SUMMARY:Pioneers: Thrift Radiates Happiness
UID:www.birmingham.ac.uk/213841
DESCRIPTION:Historian Dr Justine Pick leads this illustrated talk tracing the story of Birmingham Municipal Bank, from its founding in 1919 as a pioneering civic institution to its evolving role in the city’s financial and social life.\n
Known affectionately as the People’s Bank, it offered working people a new way to save and invest in their futures. Justine will draw on material being uncovered by volunteers working with us as part of the Unlocking the Vaults project, our National lottery Heritage Fund-supported project revealing fresh insights into the bank’s legacy and the lives it touched.\n

Delivered as part of Birmingham Heritage Week,  a once-a-year opportunity to explore 100s of places and discover Birmingham’s hidden heritage and fascinating history. This year, the University of Birmingham is a proud official sponsor of Birmingham Heritage Week.\n
