What makes you an outsider?

Andrew Caplen, President of the Law Society, will be speaking on the current state of diversity and inclusion in the legal profession.
During his lecture he will explain the importance of diversity, which communities are finding themselves isolated and why this must change. Throughout his Presidency Andrew has used every opportunity to highlight the importance of social mobility and the need for more support to be offered those looking to embark on a legal career.
Andrew will also use this opportunity to explain some of the work which the Law Society has been doing in this area.
Andrew Caplen has been the Law Society Council member for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight since 2000 and has a particular interest in access to justice. He was one of the co-authors of the Law Society’s Access to Justice Review and has written and spoken widely on access to justice and legal aid issues. He was Chair of the Law Society's Access to Justice Committee from 2008 until 2012 and Chair of the Law Society’s Management Board and Treasurer of the Law Society Group from 2010 until 2012. He also co-chaired the Group’s Business Oversight Board during its first year of operation.
