Vinson, Sydney ‘Syd’ Lufkin, 1895-1962, YMCA worker: Papers collected by Syd Vinson comprising complete set of YMCA Brightlingsea 'Mag-O'-Fun' Second World War magazines, 1939-1948; letters, photographs and correspondence sent to Vinson from YMCA Brightlingsea servicemen and women throughout the Second World War. The papers also include material relating to the sinking of the ship 'Royal Edward' during the First World War, on 13 August 1915; and a small number of published and unpublished writings by Vinson. Postcards depicting scenes of France: bound volume containing numerous souvenir black and white picture postcards of scenes of towns and cities in France including Beauvais, Tours, Villandry, Chenonceaux [Chenonceau], Amboise, Azay-le-Rideau, Langeaus, Luynes, Orleans, Paris and Saint-Cloud [St Cloud]. Images primarily depict architecture as well as a number of images of interiors of cathedrals and museums, and images of artworks and sculptures. Finding No: MS948

Photographs: Set of black and white photographic prints showing Queen Elizabeth II's visit to the University in June 1975, including a scene showing Queen Elizabeth II with the Vice-Chancellor, Robert Hunter and other University officers, and the royal party and police officers walking among a crowd of spectators gathered for the event. Three of the prints have been mounted on board and the three loose prints are duplicates of the mounted images. Acc.2018/89

Hall, Stuart McPhail, 1932-2014, cultural theorist and political commentator: Professional and political archive of Stuart Hall containing material relating to his activities as editor of the Universities and Left Review and the New Left Review in the 1950s and early 1960s; his involvement with CND during its first wave in the early 1960s; his role as a member and Director of the Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies at the University of Birmingham from 1964 to 1979; and his teaching work at the Open University after he left Birmingham in 1979. The archive contains a substantial quantity of annotated drafts and published copies of Stuart Hall's writings on a wide range of subjects, spanning the period from the 1950s to the 2010s, as well as correspondence; course materials; interview transcripts; and ephemera, 1954-2017.
