By co-locating practical laboratories for a range of disciplines, the CTL will enable collaboration and skills development. For example, cross-curricular collaborative modules and projects will equip Birmingham graduates with the inter-disciplinary skills and experience sought by employers.
With a focus on the latest educational technologies, the introduction of pre-lab work via the curriculum development process will improve the student preparation for experiments. Students will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with theoretical concepts and practical techniques before entering the laboratory, facilitating more enquiry-based experiments.
Students who are taught in the CTL will benefit from high specification equipment and modern educational technologies. The purpose-built facility will support informal inquiry and independent learning to serve the needs of a diverse community of scientists and engineers.
