Come along and join us at Lapworth Museum for Future Possibilities Lab events with participating artists Shaheen Ahmed, Divya Kasturi and Barbara Walker.

Future Possibilities Lab seeks to explore connections between arts and science to develop new meanings. Artists take part in research with academics to experiment with their practice, making connections with culture, difference and language. The initiative employs new media, test labs, discussion and workshops.

Test Lab 2017-18 was developed at Lapworth Museum of Geology at the University of Birmingham. Artists experimented with scientific research relating to geological maps, extinct fossils and chemicals from volcanic rocks to map personal journeys, explore movement and South Asian dance and to make connections with the African Caribbean contribution to World Wars.

This interactive seminar at Lapworth Museum of Geology will offer opportunities for communities to come together with artists and academics for a discussion and facilitation around plate tectonics (movement of a place) using the location of the Lapworth Museum of Geology in Birmingham and its relation to community and digital Diasporas. Dancer & Choreographer, Divya Kasturi will perform movement and dance developed in collaboration with Dr Stephan Lautenschlager’s research into extinct fossil vertebrate. There will be an interactive workshop for communities to take part in and refreshments will be provided.
