Heritage Open Days: Behind the scenes archive tour

Private letters, beautiful drawings and intriguing photographs are just a few of the items tucked away in our archive store at the Lapworth Museum. Join us for a free behind the scenes tour to learn about the life and archive of the Museum's namesake, Charles Lapworth.

The tours will begin in the Museum reception before heading to the archive store for a look at some original documents which are over 100 years old and give an insight into Lapworth's personal and professional life, including his mental illness, attitude towards women in science and his contributions to geological controversies.

During Heritage Open Days we're offering two tours:

Saturday 10th September: 14:30

Thursday 15th September: 11:00

Tours will last approximately one hour. Spaces are limited so please email Rachel Brown, r.brown.10@bham.ac.uk, to book your free space.

Please note, the archive store is on a mezzanine floor which unfortunately can only be accessed by stairs.

Whilst you’re on campus during Heritage Open Days, why not go on another archive tour at the Cadbury Research Library? One of their Project Archivists will be giving behind the scenes tours with a focus on their YMCA collection - check out their event listing for more information.
