The Lapworth Museum and colleagues in the Map Room have been working together to deliver some recent public engagement activities.
Over the Easter Holidays the Museum ran one of its usual ‘family fun days’, but this time with a twist. The Magnificent Maps event was a collaboration between the Lapworth and the Map Room. Arts and Craft activities, developed by Chantal Jackson, such as Journey strings, 3D Map making and colouring, ran alongside a compass themed Museum trail, and map inspired talks. Our famous D-Day landing maps also made an appearance alongside first edition Ordinance Survey and other historical maps. Jamie Peart provided a stereoscope and aerial photographs to allow visitors to view landscapes urban environments in 3D.
The day was a tremendous success, drawing in around 230 visitors and extremely positive feedback. A temporary exhibition with some of the maps has been developed in the Museum Education Room.
