Amal Hallak

Amal HallakAmal’s role on the TLANG project is a Research Fellow. Based at Cardiff University, Amal works with Dr Frances Rock. Together they research how people use Arabic alongside in English in everyday life in the Cathays area of Cardiff.

Amal is finishing her PhD in Critical and Cultural studies at the Centre for Critical and Cultural Theory, Cardiff University. Her research interests are in socio-linguistic, cultural studies, translation, literary theory and fashion. In particular she is fascinated by the linguistic and cultural constructions of identity in both migrant and indigenous communities. For future projects, Amal would like to research the role the language of fashion plays in construction of identity.
