Dr Frances Rock
Frances is one of the TLANG project’s Co- Investigators. Based in Cardiff, she manages project activities there and works with other members of the team to collect data, produce project outputs, share engagement events and to generate research impact from the project. Frances also has a particular interest in and responsibility for the parts of the project which relate to legal advice.
Frances is Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Language and Communication Research in the School of English, Communication and Philosophy at Cardiff University. Her research interests are in discourse analysis, linguistic ethnography, literacies, language and policing and ecolinguistics. Her publications include Legal-Lay Communication: Textual Travels in the Law. (with John Conley and Chris Heffer, 2013, Oxford University Press); Communicating rights: the language of arrest and detention(2007) and Working with Dialogue (with Malcolm Coulthard and Janet Cotterill, 2000, Max Niemeyer Verlag). She edits the International Journal of Speech, Language and the Law.
