Professor Janice Thompson
Janice’s role on the TLANG project is as a Senior Researcher with expertise in the areas of sport, physical activity and public health. In this role she engages with all members of the team to provide expert subject knowledge, and she will work with non-academic partners to co-organise a public engagement Showcaseevent within this area of expertise.
Janice L Thompson is Professor of Public Health Nutrition and Exercise, University of Birmingham. Her research interests are in examining the role of public health nutrition and exercise in preventing and treating risks for obesity, cardiovascular disease, and type 2 diabetes across the lifespan. She applies mixed-methods approaches to examining factors that influence nutrition- and activity-related lifestyle choices, and in the development and evaluation of community-based culturally tailored lifestyle interventions. She has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles, books and book chapters, and is the author of 4 nutrition textbooks published in English, Spanish, Arabic, and Korean. She is a Fellow and Past Vice President of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). She is also a member of the Scientific Committee of the European College of Sport Science (ECSS).
