Reconstructing social enterprise: an ESRC seminar series
12 April 2013
University of Birmingham
The third in our series, this seminar draws links between normative theories and social enterprise. We are delighted to welcome Angela Eikenberry from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. In her paper Angela critiques the marketization of the third sector and calls for an alternative democratic discourse.
The second paper by Graham Smith of Westminster University examines links between theories of associative democracy and the social economy, and explores the regulatory challenges involved in developing the social economy.
After lunch, John Goodman of Co-ops UK will continue the democratic theme in focusing on the challenges and benefits of democracy in the workplace.
Michael Gonin (LEC Lausanne) will discuss how a model which integrates organizations’ multiple dimensions might normatively shape governmental structures, organizational identity and management practice.
Finally Les Huckfield, social enterprise practitioner and commentator, and former MP will present the provocatively titled paper “social enterprise not social investment.”
