July 2020 Degree Congregations
All students should have received an email from the Vice-Chancellor confirming the postponement of our on-campus July 2020 Degree Congregations until March 2021 in light of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic. This was a very difficult decision but one that has been made with the best interests of our students and staff in mind. We are delighted to confirm that, in addition to the replacement on-campus events due to be held in March 2021, we will also be running Virtual Graduation Celebrations in the week commencing Monday 27 July 2020 to mark the achievements of our Class of 2020 graduating cohort. What should I wear?
Degree Congregations are formal occasions and graduands are expected to dress for such an occasion. Alternatives to this may be worn for cultural and religious reasons, however casual wear is not deemed appropriate. Please bear in mind that you will be climbing and descending a number of platform steps, so please wear sensible footwear. You may wish to wear a top with buttons down the front to help secure your academic hood.
Graduands must also wear the appropriate academic dress (robe, hood and hat) for the degree for which they are to be presented. Academic dress should be ordered from the University's gown hire suppliers Ede and Ravenscroft.
For more information regarding your ticket allocation (including guest and extra tickets) please visit our ticketing webpage.
We advise all graduands to pre-order your photography before the day of your Degree Congregation as this will save time on the day. A range of photography options are available to order from Ede and Ravenscroft, the University's official photographer. If you are unable, or do not wish to pre-order your photography, you can always choose and order on the day.
The University’s hotel is the closest option for overnight stays. Located on campus, Edgbaston Park Hotel is just ten minutes’ walk from University station and 15 minutes’ walk from the main campus. Parking is free for hotel guests.
Edgbaston Park Hotel offers a discounted bed-and-breakfast rate for visitors attending the Degree Congregations. Please quote GRAD_BB to receive 15% off our best flexible bed-and-breakfast rate.
