Dr Marie Falahee, from the Institute of Inflammation and Ageing, is to visit the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS) patient group in Worcester this month to talk about patient involvement in rheumatology research.

Dr Falahee will talk about how the work of the Rheumatology Research Group in the Institute of Inflammation and Ageing benefits from patient involvement and describe examples of how patients have contributed to a wide variety of research projects.

Dr Falahee leads the Birmingham Rheumatology Research Patient Partnership (R2P2). R2P2 enables researchers at the University of Birmingham to learn from the experiences of patients of living with conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and Sjögren’s syndrome.

Dr Falahee says: “Our patient partners advise us about what research we should do, how we should go about it, and how we should share our research with the public. This ensures that our research is relevant, appropriate and efficient and that patient benefit is at the heart of everything we do.”

The NRAS is the only UK charity devoted specifically to Rheumatology Arthritis. The talk is set to take place at 6.45-8.30pm on Wednesday 12 September at the Lyppard Hub in Ankerage Green, Warndon Villages, Worcester.
