The Department of Theology & Religion is excited to announce that Professor Charlotte Hempel is launching the Second Temple Early Career Academy (STECA), an international network for doctoral students and early career researchers in Second Temple Judaism.

The aim is to create a virtual common room to support early career researchers wherever they are based. STECA is dedicated to support and nurture a new generation of researchers in a challenging Higher Education and external environment, both in the UK and internationally.

As well as being a hub for events and helpful resources, STECA will be the home for a monthly blog, covering topics like: job applications; career progression and promotion; applying for funding; networking and collaboration; careers outside academia; and publishing.

STECA is directed by Charlotte Hempel and a five-strong steering committee, consisting of University of Birmingham PhD students Mike DeVries and Joseph Scales, as well as Dr Jessica Keady (University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Dr Marieke Dhont (University of Cambridge), and Dr Elisa Uusimäki (University of Helsinki).
