As part of the department’s commitment to student enhancement activities Harvard University’s prize-winning Daniel Ziblatt delivered a talk to staff and students based on his most recent book, ‘How Democracies Die’, recently recommended by Barack Obama as a book which speaks to the current political moment. Prof. Ziblatt drew on the experience of democracies and democratic breakdown from history and across the globe to highlight some of the dangers faced by even long-standing democracies such as the USA.

The event was organized by Tim Haughton and the Student Enhancement Officer Eleanor Woulfe, as part of the POLSIS’s commitment to providing platforms to discuss the major issues of the day with leading experts and to enhancing the student experience.
