The start of another year for the School of Engineering RFC began with us holding our annual welcome session to introduce the Club to prospective new players. It was fantastic to see so many new faces, attracting more than 30 new players of all abilities to get a taste of what the Club is all about.

Our recruitment continued at the EPS Societies Fair, which was an excellent event that allows us to answer questions and chat to students throughout the College as well as meet the many other societies.

With the Club now almost 100 members strong! We began our season with 2 full squads playing weekly regular matches. The first of which being the new Engineering Rugby Cup where we hosted engineering teams from Exeter, Liverpool and Bristol Universities in what will hopefully become an annual event.

Other highlights from the term include a 1st XV 26-7 win over a strong Luctonians U21 team and a 2nd XV 20-5 victory in the derby game against the University of Birmingham Medics 2nd XV.

In late November 60 players embarked on our annual Tour, previously to Malaga, Munich and Faro. This time we travelled to Barcelona on what was a great weekend for all players, young and old, to get to know each other better.

At the end of term we hosted the Deliveroo Double Header, 2 games on the main University rugby pitch with free food provided by Deliveroo. The event attracted more than 200 spectators and some impressive results on the pitch helped make it a huge success.

It’s been a very busy term for the Club but without doubt our most successful as we continue to improve both on the pitch and off it as we increase the events we organise and opportunities we provide to our players.
