Dr Emma Wagstaff in the Department of Modern Languages at Birmingham has co-edited a volume on contemporary French poetry with Dr Nina Parish of the University of Bath.

Entitled ‘Poetry’s Forms and Transformations’, it is a special issue of the journal L’Esprit Créateur, and is available to read here: http://muse.jhu.edu/issue/39276. The articles examine the different ways in which recent poetic practice in French engages with other arts and disciplines, including visual art, film, performance, digital technologies, legal documents, architecture, and translation.

The volume emerges from a project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, led by Emma Wagstaff between 2013 and 2015. She and Nina Parish have also published an article in the Irish Journal of French Studies on the experience of translating poetry and editing a bilingual anthology, and Emma’s chapter on a contemporary poet, Jean-Paul Michel, has appeared in a volume published by Classiques Garnier. These publications connect with the teaching and research on translation in the Department of Modern Languages, and with the combining of word, music, and image in the School of Languages, Cultures, Art History and Music.
