CENC NEW

The University of Birmingham and CETC Network & Communication Group Co., Ltd (CENC) signed a momentous research agreement in November 2019 to develop highly integrated millimetre-wave front-end antennas for 5G communications (Hi5MWA Project).  Novocomms Limited UK is partnered with the University of Birmingham to deliver the project, which will address several key technologies for 5G front-end antennas.

In attendance at the signing ceremony was the Head of College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, Professor Andy Schofield, the Vice President of CENC, Yunfeng Wen, and signatories of the agreement ranged from senior engineers, dignitaries and academic staff from the College at the event.

The event was organised by Lead Investigator, Dr Yi Wang, Senior Lecturer in RF and Microwave Engineering, and Co-Investigator Professor Peter Gardner, Head of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering and Chair in Microwave Engineering.

The project is funded by CENC and the parent company of CENC - China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC), a large high-tech enterprise group in China dedicated to communications and electronic equipment.

The exciting 20-month project is viewed as an introduction to CENC and welcomes future collaborations with the University of Birmingham. CENC has a strong synergy with the research interests and capacity of the Communications and Sensing (C&S) group in Birmingham. This project will explore novel ideas from which long-term collaboration links between CENC and the University in the area of 5G and Internet of Things can be established.  The collaboration also has the potential to extend the research scope of the C&S group and establish the group at the forefront of communications research ready for future innovations in 6G and beyond.
