a portrait of Joe on a sunny day

Joseph Houlders, who is a doctoral candidate supported by the Midlands Training Partnership (M4C), supervised by Lisa Bortolotti and Matthew Broome, received an Honourable Mention for the prestigious Jaspers Award issued by the Association for the Advancement of Philosophy and Psychiatry.

Joe’s research involves using ideas from philosophy to think about issues in mental health. In the paper for which he received the mention, he used observations made by the philosopher Maurice Merleau-Ponty to discuss the clinical treatment of a particular manifestation of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder ('OCD').
