Stakeholder relations

The Public Affairs and Stakeholder Relations team cover events, political engagements, and estates communications. The team is responsible for stakeholder communications and the delivery of corporate events such as the Happiness Lecture, the Distinguished Lecture Series, and Community Day.

Ed Thomas - Head of Public Affairs

Ed leads the coordination of the University’s political engagement, stakeholder relations and corporate events.
On public affairs he works across institutional issues, as well as in support of researchers and their policy engagement objectives with local, regional, national and international policy and political stakeholders.
Ed has over ten years experience in a variety of public affairs and communications roles in Brussels and the UK.

Jennifer Crisp - Public Affairs Manager 

Jennifer is responsible for supporting the University’s public affairs engagement and relationship management with external stakeholders. She has a specific focus on our engagement with local and regional partners.

Fiona Woolston - Community Relations and Public Affairs Assistant 

Fiona provides support to the Estates Communications team and Public Affairs team. Her main role is to assistant the teams in promoting the University’s regional and national influence, and strengthening relations with the local community, by providing administrative, project management, communication and digital support. Currently, her prime projects include the Green Heart and The Big Sleuth. Fiona has also contributed to University-wide initiatives such as ‘Making Space’ by providing project management support.

Debbie Naylor - Events Manager

Debbie joined the University of Birmingham in December 2016 and is responsible for delivering the University’s external events, to showcase the work of the University to as wide a range of Stakeholders as possible.  Examples of events include University Annual Meeting, formal lunches and dinners, official openings and launches, events in recognition of Honorary Graduates, Public Affairs events, and public events such as the Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Lecture Series and Community Festival.

Debbie brings experience in Event and Conference Management and Marketing from a range of Higher Education, Public and Private Sector organisations.

Eleanor Burdis – Events Officer

As an events professional Ele has over ten years’ experience in managing an extensive range of corporate events, VIP visits, launches and  internal events. As a skilled project manager Ele has been responsible for the delivery of the annual Community Festival, effectively managing a wide range of internal and external partners.

Jane Arrowsmith - Events Officer

Jane is responsible for delivery of an extensive range of corporate events, high profile dinners, VIP visits, launches and internal events. Jane leads on a range of events including the Vice-Chancellor's Distinguished Lecture Series.

Stuart Panrucker - Events Assistant

Stuart is responsible for supporting the work of the Stakeholder Relations Team in the day to day running of the office, as well as in events and communications projects. He has eight years experience in education marketing and events, and currently works closely with Ele Burdis and Jane Arrowsmith to deliver the University’s corporate events programme.

Sally Xerri-Brooks – Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Manager (Estates)

Sally is responsible for working with colleagues across the University to make sure all the right people know about major capital developments at the right time. This involves working closely with a variety of departments, including Estates and Hospitality and Accommodation Services. She also leads on community engagement, attending local meetings and responding to concerns from the University’s neighbours about organisational matters.
