Two University of Birmingham students have been selected to represent Great Britain in the World University Golf Championships to be staged at Circolo Golf Torino, Italy, which starts today [5 September].

Ed Parker (aged 19) and Jason Palmer (aged 21) were selected to play at the championships, which runs until 9 September, following an impressive performance at the Golf Home Internationals in August, where both players came away undefeated.

Their results contributed to an overall victory for the England’s Men’s Matchplay Internationals at the event held at Dudsbury Golf Club in Bournemouth. The English Women’s Team Strokeplay International followed suit with a win helped by another University of Birmingham student, Lucinda Davies.

This continues a run of success that both Golf Management students have had this year. Palmer is currently ranked 6th in the English Golf Union’s Order of Merit, whilst Parker is the 2006 British Universities Strokeplay champion and winner of the 2006 British Universities Sports Association (BUSA) Order of Merit.

The World University Championships will see 18 teams from across the globe competing for Men’s and Women’s individual and team titles.
