Professor Xin Zhong, ECUST Vice President and Professor Andy Schofield, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Head of the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences

A senior delegation from East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) visited the University of Birmingham to explore collaboration in engineering.

Professor Andy Schofield, University of Birmingham Pro-Vice Chancellor and Head of the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, welcomed delegates from the Shanghai research university to the campus.

Led by Professor Xin Zhong, ECUST Vice President, the group met a range of experts from the University’s Schools of Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science to explore future partnerships in research and teaching.

Professor Andy Schofield said: “Linking up with our academic partners in China is an important component of the University of Birmingham’s global strategy. We have world-leading expertise in engineering and computer science and hope to forge lasting partnerships with like-minded research experts at ECUST.

"It is a great pleasure for me and my colleagues to welcome our distinguished guests to our campus. This I hope will help further develop our ongoing relationship. We look forward to working in close partnership with ECUST on a range of education and research initiatives.”

The ECUST delegation comprised of Xin Zhong, Vice President and Professor; Zhao Ling, Professor, School of Chemical Engineering; Hui Hu, Professor, Dean, School of Mechanical And Power Engineering; Zhong Weimin, Professor, Vice dean, School of Information Science and Engineering; and Zhang Wen, Officer of International Affairs Office.

Professor Xin Zhong, ECUST Vice President, said: “I am pleased to visit University of Birmingham - an outstanding university of the Russell Group in the UK. We hope that we can further our existing co-operation and explore new co-operation possibilities in the near future.”

After their discussions, Professor Zhibing Zhang, Deputy Director of the University of Birmingham’s China Institute led the visitors on a tour of the School of Chemical Engineering.

The University of Birmingham and ECUST already have a strong relationship with a wide range of strategic links. The Universities run joint programmes in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, whilst Professor Zhibing Zhang hosted Professor Zhao Ling’s year-long visit to Birmingham, funded by the Royal Society.
