Transforming Healthcare

Evolving the provision and delivery of healthcare now and for the future is a mission firmly on the University’s agenda. Our role in the transformation of global healthcare continues to establish the University and region as world leaders in life sciences from clinical trials, to innovative new therapies and treatments, from design, development and testing of medical products, devices and services and to the real world application of research.

Collaborating with industry on new opportunities is at the very heart of the University’s contribution to the national vision for life sciences. With a large scale, diverse and stable population, the Midlands region presents an unrivalled landscape of opportunity for academic industry partnerships within the healthcare sector.

Primed for Innovation

Birmingham Health Innovation Campus

The Birmingham Health Innovation Campus (BHIC) is the only science park in the region dedicated to health and life sciences, sitting at the heart of a critical cluster of health excellence, led by a strategic health partnership – Birmingham Health Partners (BHP) – creating opportunities for transformative collaborations between businesses, the University and NHS partners.

Developed in partnership with Bruntwood SciTech and opening in 2023, BHIC will harness world-leading academic and clinical strengths while bringing new commercial power to the region to accelerate life sciences research, taking innovative new healthcare treatments and technologies from early development to real life application.

Designated a Life Science Opportunity Zone (LSOZ) by the Government, BHIC will act as a catalyst for creating a world-leading health and innovation ecosystem, as well as providing much needed additional clinical and incubation space for the University, NHS Trusts and local spinouts.
