What is the Impact Internships programme?

The Impact Internship is an internship programme designed specifically to support start-ups, social enterprises and Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to recruit talent from the University of Birmingham who can support with specific projects.  Internships via this programme will only be open to final year students and recent graduates.

What is an internship?

Students carry out specific work-related tasks over a set period. The aim of an internship is to provide the intern with professional experience and the opportunity to develop skills related to working in a specific role or sector. During the period of the internship, the work undertaken by the intern could be whatever best suits your business requirements - for example, fundraising and marketing, a social media presence or researching competitors' products. For the Impact internships Scheme, the tasks presented to the intern should be of a graduate level standard and so it would be described as a graduate internship.

What types of students do we have?

You can target your internship/project towards students in a specific college or studying a specific degree, although the roles will need to be open to all eligible University of Birmingham students and graduates in order to reflect the wide range of interests our students have outside of their degree. You can read details of all degree programmes offered by the University

When can an internship take place?

Internships as part of this programme can be undertaken on a full or part-time basis. We offer funding for 4-week internships to take place in the the summer vacation period.

If you are looking at making a permanent hire in your organisation, you can utilise this funding to offer an initial 4-week trial period.

You can register your interest now for an intern this summer.  Please read the funding section below and complete our online form by Sunday 14 February 2021.
