Inclusive practice with children and young people with sensory impairments

This module aims to develop your understanding of the inclusion of children and young people with sensory impairment in a range of educational settings and wider society.

It aims to increase the understanding of the nature of the relationship between the sensory impairments and the communicative and environmental difficulties associated with these conditions and how to meet the needs of those individuals.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the module, you will be able to:

  • Understand the impact of sensory impairments on a range of aspects of children’s development
  • Understand nature of the relationship between these impairments and the communicative, mobility, environmental difficulties associated with these conditions
  • Understand the different needs of learners with sensory impairments
  • Understand the range of approaches for the inclusion of children and young people with sensory impairment in a range of educational and social settings. 

Assessment

You will be assessed through a range of work, enabling you to demonstrate your knowledge, skills and understanding of the theory and practical application of the module material. 

You will have one specific formative assessment (where you receive informal feedback, but it does not count towards your module grade) and one summative assessment (which is graded).
