Teaching Interventions for Learners with Dyslexia

This module will engage you in understanding and critically appraising current literature in the different teaching approaches for learners with dyslexia. you will be enabled to further develop your practical skills by conducting additional teaching interventions to the ones you have already done during your first year of studies (PGCert year) and associate this with the assessments previously conducted.
The Module focuses on the application of existing teaching strategies and the development of new approaches based on the principles of specialist dyslexia teaching and on the principles of dyslexia-friendly schools.
The aims of this Module is to enable you to:
- Make links between assessment and intervention for dyslexia so as to address the needs of dyslexic learners and remove barriers to learning
- Select from the teaching approaches available to enhance access to the curriculum for learners with dyslexia
- Adapt and evaluate their own teaching strategies through the principles of action research
- Start developing dyslexia-friendly approaches in their contexts for the inclusion of learners with dyslexia.
The module will be assessed by means of a professional practice portfolio comprising evidence that participants have met all the relevant requirements posed by the British Dyslexia Association so as to meet the AMBDA criteria for specialist dyslexia teaching.
