Module description

This module is about the markets for foreign exchange and other foreign financial assets.  Different methods of determining foreign exchange rates are considered together with the reasons for variation in exchange rates.  Some techniques of hedging foreign exchange risk are also considered.

Learning outcomes

Students who complete the module successfully should be able to:

(i) carry out a range of transactions on foreign exchange markets; 

(ii)  apply theories of foreign exchange rates; 

(iii) predict the direction of change in foreign exchange rates; and

(iv) apply a range of techniques to reduce foreign exchange risk.

These learning outcomes will be assessed by a test and an examination.

Assessment

  • 1-hour class test in November (25%)
  • 3-hour exam in January (75%)
