This module offers in-depth fundamentals of modelling methods for energy devices, processes and networks. It provides the necessary mathematical and engineering understanding for building models to investigate energy conversion, storage and transportation. The syllabus entails:

  • Thermodynamics principles for modelling of modern energy systems
  • Topological description of energy networks
  • Development and use of models for energy networks
  • Use of Matlab for numerical modelling of energy systems
  • Introduction and use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to investigate energy devices
