Nuclear Energy
Module Title - Nuclear Energy
Number of credits – 10
Module description
This is an introductory module in nuclear energy. It will cover both underlying science (e.g., reactor physics) and technology (e.g., reactor systems) up to a moderate level.
Whilst attaining a deeper understanding would require a devoted programme, this module is fairly self-contained whilst also giving a good perspective of how nuclear fits into the energy mix.
By the end of the module you will be able to
- Comprehend the basic underlying science of how a nuclear reactor works
- Perform reactor physics and kinetics calculations for a range of situations
- Understand the basics of the workings of a nuclear power plant as an engineering system
- Know the different main features and operation behaviour of the world’s main reactor types
