Citizenship, Human Rights and the Environment

The course will provide an introduction to the history, concepts, institutions and applications of human rights in an educational context.

The course begins with an examination of the theoretical conceptions of human rights, and provides an introduction to international human rights documents. It will examine the relationship of human rights to the conception of citizenship before exploring a range of themes, including the environment, globalization, conflict, gender, religion, children, minorities and migrants, together with a contextualized case study to be determined in consultation with you.

This course will integrate theory, policy and practice within an international perspective.
