Module description


This module also introduces students to the techniques and analysis of numerical methods in linear algebra, specifically to the numerical solution of linear equations and the numerical determination of eigenvalues and eigenvectors.

The theory is further illustrated by applications using current software packages like, e.g., Maple or Matlab.


By the end of the module you will be able to:

  • compute numerical solutions of linear systems and determine eigenvalues and eigenvectors numerically using standard methods;
  • estimate the errors involved and be aware of stability problems in linear systems;
  • by the end of the module, students should also be able to explore these topics beyond the taught syllabus.
