The African MBA Scholarship is a full fees scholarship (£30,450 for 2021/22 entry), part funded by a private donor with a commitment to Africa and part by the University.

A full scholarship is the equivalent of an ESRC studentship and covers Home fees (£4,500 p.a.) plus a living allowance (stipend) of £15,609 per annum for three years, subject to satisfactory progress. For applicants outside the UK or without settled status, a full scholarship equates normally to £20,109 covering full fees and providing a contribution towards living expenses.


The scholarships involve full fees and/or stipends for PhD students across the College of Social Sciences.

These awards cover one year's tuition fees at Home rates for full-time applicants, or two years part-time.

The College of Arts and Law offers home fees-only scholarships for Master's-level courses starting in September 2021. International students are also eligible to apply to receive a home tuition-fee discount.

The School has several Darwin Studentships available to International Students or EU Students who are not citizens of the UK.

The Darwin Studentships specifically fund PhD projects in the area of microbial (preferably bacterial) molecular genetics.

Up to five awards are available, usually of £600 in value. Each award is tenable for one year only, however previous applicants may reapply in subsequent years.

Offering awards of around £600, this scheme is open to all students currently studying at the University who have a disability.

The Haywood Scholarship provides for Home tuition fees and a small maintenance grant. As an EU/international student, you will receive a reduction in tuition fees equivalent to the Home rate if successful, plus a small maintenance grant. 

While it is hoped that the scholarship would be continued for three years, it will be subject to an annual review. 

The College of Arts and Law is offering the Haywood Scholarship to an outstanding doctoral research candidate in History of Art. The Haywood Scholarship provides for Home tution fees and a small maintenance grant.
