Birmingham Doctoral Scholarship fund

Looking to invest in your future?

We are. Doctoral research students at Birmingham are an integral part of university life. We are ambitious for the future and are committed to developing and investing in new academic talent.

The Birmingham Doctoral Scholarship fund will support ten new PhD scholars annually across the University. Open to UK/EU applicants, these awards will be partially funded by the University to support subject-specific and inter-disciplinary research projects.

Postgraduate research students will be awarded £6,000 per year for three years, provided that good progress is made in each year of study. These awards can be combined with additional funding from other sources, such as the UK Government Doctoral loan. The scheme offers a total of £18,000 towards your studies and is allocated over three years of full time study.

To be considered for an award, you will need to follow the application and selection process for the Academic School in which you plan to study.
